Hey guys,check this out!!
PuffyAmiYumi Exclusive Interview
ASTYLE: Are you excited about performing tomorrow night?
PUFFY: Yes, we are very excited about tomorrow.
ASTYLE: You have had quite a road trip across America with a stop in New York and now Austin. Have you been able to enjoy Austin?
Yumi: We were going to take in some of the sights yesterday, but it started raining heavily. Hopefully, we can get out today and check out the city.
ASTYLE: As one of the most popular bands in Japan, what do you think has been the secret of your success?
Ami: I don't know the secret of our success, but I would like to think that it stems from our music.
ASTYLE: What do you think of being compared to an industry giant such as the Beatles?
Yumi: We have never thought of that before. It would be pretty presumptuous to compare us to the likes of a band such as the Beatles. It is very flattering to think that people are enjoying our music in the same way they would enjoy listening to a Beatles song.
ASTYLE: How do you think each of your singing and performance styles compliment one another?
Yumi: It's an evolving process. The first time we sang together there was chemistry and our voices just clicked. As we to sing together, whether it is in the studio or wherever, our voices continue to become even more harmonious. I think that the key to our becoming a group has been the way we continue to grow together.
ASTYLE: Being together so often and working together continuously, do you at times consider yourselves almost like sisters?
Ami: Everyone thinks we are sisters, if not twins. Despite our appearances, and all the time we do spend together, it's actually kind of a weird relationship. We don't have the natural bond that say, sisters or even best friends may have. As much time as we spend together, there are many things that we don't share together. We are fortunate that we can maintain a comfortable boundary between our professional and personal lives. I think that this makes us stronger as a group. Although (smiles), sometimes we can be as close as sisters. So, it's weird. (shrugs)
ASTYLE: Having such a happy-go-lucky image, what makes each of you happy?
Yumi: I think it's that we are true to ourselves; as people and as artists. We are genuine about our feelings. When we are really having fun, whether it's singing or performing during a show, it comes through. It's not like we put on a happy face. We are just being natural and ourselves.
ASTYLE: Your faces grace the covers of so many products, anything from footwear, shampoo to dolls. Is it sometimes strange to see your faces on every product? Do you find it strange being so popular?
Ami: Well, no … It's actually pretty simple. It just makes us happy. (both laugh)
ASTYLE: What character trait do you feel has been the most significant to possess in order to be successful?
Ami: I think it's most important to be yourself. I mean, we don't pretend to be someone else in front of the camera. We are the same people you see on TV. I think people can easily relate to us because we behave like normal people. We are real.
ASTYLE: Looking back at all your success, when you were growing up did you ever think that in your wildest dreams that would reach this level of popularity?
PUFFY: No (both shake their heads no and smile)
ASTYLE: Are there any artists that you have collaborated with or would like to?
Yumi: Working with Andy Sturmer (Jellyfish) has been a wonderful experience. I can't believe that we are making music with him. It's fantastic.
ASTYLE: What are your favorite styles and do you have any favorite designers?
Ami: We don't really have any one favorite designer. We don't buy things from only one place. If we find something that we like, we buy it then.
ASTYLE: What are your favorite foods?
Ami: Yakitori (chicken steak)
Yumi: Kibidango (rice ball treat)
ASTYLE: Can you describe what love means to each of you?
Yumi: Love should forever be a mystery. If you already know what love is, then it makes things less interesting. There is more to be said for the unveiling of all the surprises that come with love.
Ami: If we knew the secret to love, our love songs wouldn't be best sellers. Love is a riddle. Everyone experiences this and searches throughout their life to find the meaning of love. Some people might find the answers and others will never find it. Love is tricky. (laughs)
ASTYLE: What does each of you do for fun when you are not recording or performing?
Yumi: I go shopping. Play games. Play with the cats. Sleep. I just do anything. And I enjoy it! (laughs)
ASTYLE: Do you find it easy to get around or is it a dramatic production? Do fans and paparazzi follow you?
Ami: There is nothing like that. Nobody follows us. (laughs)
ASTYLE: If you were an M&M, what color would you be?
Ami: (Both laugh) Usually, we wouldn't eat the brown ones until last. Hmm… I'd say I would be either blue or red.
Yumi: Red or blue
ASTYLE: Do you carry any lucky charms or do anything special before a performance?
Yumi: Before a performance, we usually get a little nervous, so we keep talking with each other to smooth over the edges, but we don't carry anything special.
ASTYLE: What qualities do you find attractive or sexy in another person?
Yumi: I find a person who has a strong opinion and expresses their opinions to others attractive. I find that I am attracted to these people.
Ami: I respect people with special abilities.
ASTYLE: What is your favorite attribute?
Yumi: My nose is small and people are always telling me that my nostrils are so small and cute. So, I decided that my charm is in my nose.
Ami: For me, I would have to say that it's my little tooth. See? (flashes a gorgeous smile, points to the tooth in questions and laughs)
ASTYLE: What would you rather receive - chocolates or flowers?
Yumi: I would prefer chocolate, but if it were a potted flower, I would choose the flower. Otherwise, I would feel sad to see the flower die.
ASTYLE: Having accomplished so much, what would make your dreams come true?
Ami: I would like to travel around the world. I hope to work hard to have that comfortable lifestyle one day. I would imagine that I would need a couple of years off in order to do some serious traveling. Hopefully, that will happen one day.
Yumi: Just to be healthy. That's it.
ASTYLE: Is there anything that you could say to your fans in America?
Yumi: We would like for many people to listen to our music.
Ami: If you have a chance to come to Japan, please come see us in concert. We would love to have you.
PUFFY: Hello ASTYLE fans. We are Puffy. Please come see our live concert! Yoroshiku!!
